South Korea’s TGSolar and SOLIDEA have agreed an OEM deal for the sale and distribution of “Spectra” in over 30 countries including Europe and the entire MENA region.  The Spectra BiPV system adds a lot of value to the Building-integrated photovoltaic market says Dr. Janusz  Przeorek President of SOLIDEA in Central Europe  “being practically the only transparent vision glass PV module on the market this could be a real game changer for us and the European BiPV market; its certainly popular with architects and building owners”

Spectra’s a-Si [amorphous silicon] cells are made from a semi conductor wafer cut so thin as to achieve various levels of transparency. The cells are then laminated between two panels of glass then fabricated into double glass glazing and vents just like any other glass panel. Spectra is compatible with practically any curtain wall window and door system on the market

The a-Si technology developed by DJ Kim and his team in Korea is high performance having already achieved efficiency levels over 10% and almost twice that of its rivals developing similar semiconductor technologies

What BiPV has always lacked is a fast way to the market and into the existing supply chain explains Dr. Janusz Przeorek there is not a route for this system or other pure BiPV systems in the normal distribution chain; its a definitely a bespoke project product and therefore ideal for SOLIDEA and its cross border project supply chain. SOLIDEA will develop architectural solutions for a wide range of BiPV applications including all leading curtain wall manufacturers.

BiPV is the fastest growing sector of the global renewable energy business with an estimated tenfold growth over the next five years. BiPV is likely to be backed by government incentives in many regions of the world for many years to come because BiPV makes and delivers renewable electrical energy where its most needed.
