Defective Skylight’s Continue To Cost Polish Retailers Millions

Warsaw 27 February 2014

Skylight 3

Defective skylights currently cost Polish retail industry millions of Euros a year in energy loss. So far the extra over cost is picked up by the retail centre tenants who share in the loss. Since 2013 SOLIDEA Group EVE® team have surveyed over 1 million m2 of Retail Roofing in Poland reporting that more than 80% of skylight smoke vents are found to be defective the majority only needing simple adjustment.

In 2013 The Skylights Were The Highlights

Comparing surveyed retail centres in Poland the Czech and Slovak republics in 2013 Poland has without question issues with skylights. Smoke ventilation skylights are installed according to the local fire requirements in the European Union, it usually means that between 3% and 5% of the total roof area is operable to evacuate smoke in the event of a fire. On large retail projects as much as 20% “EV” [Energy Variation] occurs as a result of defective smoke vents. “EV” is a negative it means energy loss. Continue reading

Upgrade Your Office, School Or Shopping Centre To LED For Free In Poland With EVE®

Warsaw 20 January 2014

LED Strip

Since 2014, AC LED’s became tried and tested. AC LED’s production cost are far less than DC LED’s because an AC/DC converter is no longer required. Offices, schools, shopping centres and others can halve their energy bills with plug and play InsertLED® lamps. From 2014 EVE® clients can upgrade to LED lighting at no cost. EVE® are ready and willing to finance LED upgrade for a share of energy savings.

EVE® Stage THREE Clients Can Upgrade To LED With No Cost

LED is much more expensive in Capital Cost than traditional lighting installations, however longterm LED lighting save energy and have a much longer life cycle. Non LED lighting units are generally far lower cost but the advent of AC lighting means InsertLED® is far more competitive and simply by changing the light bulb. Continue reading

Developing Asthma Inclusive Environments To Achieve The Ultimate IAQ

Warsaw 31 December 2013

A House Dust Mite

An inclusive environment is one which is open and accessible to all disabilities. The inclusive environment does not foster the wheelchair ramp at the front steps it eliminates the front steps. Truly inclusive environments simply do not discriminate between the able and the disabled user. No other group reacts faster to poor IAQ than the Asthma Prone. We refer to these Asthma Prone as the “IAQ Sentinels” and we would do well to heed their warning

SOLIDEA Group EVE® Services and Building Sickness

EVE® is an acronym for Energy Value Engineering. SOLIDEA Group offers it’s expert due diligence team to its energy clients as “After The Meter Services” we are the first energy company in Poland to assist our clients in “Saving Energy”. Through a FOUR Stage Workout of better building condition, improved energy management and control, energy saving devices and finally energy offset SOLIDEA EVE® team are dedicated to save their clients energy costs but not at the expense of the health, welfare and well being of the building user. GTL Keeping Flares Out Of Fashion For Good Part 1

Warsaw 1 October 2013

North Dakota Gas Flare

As the exploitation of oil and gas increases to meet needy global demand and the so called net energy security of North America. The flaring of gas increases significantly worldwide. Many Countries like the United States who recently increased exploitation of new oil and gas fields not the least as a result of new fracking technologies do so at a terrific cost to the environment.

The Scale Of Flaring

Before 2010 flaring worldwide accounted for approximately 400 million cubic meters of gas per year. This creates emissions equivalent to over half a percent of total hydrocarbon and GHG fuel emissions worldwide today. Experts warn that flaring of gas for new fields and especially in North America presents a critical increase in GHG emissions which can soon account for as much as 1% of of all hydrocarbon GHG fuel emissions worldwide if not contained. Taking Water On Board To Save Others From Sinking

Berlin 28 August 2013

EVE® Street Drones

The condition of municipal water distribution networks in Central, Eastern and Central Southern Europe is at best poor. Even after investing billions of Euros of Public Money into improving the delivery of local utilities the vision of providing everyone quality potable water suitable for drinking is still a long way off. But by taking new technologies on board we believe we can make a real difference.

Improving Technical Due Diligence

Better technical due diligence methods must be implemented to improve utility management and high-tech solutions such as EVE® Drones can do much to conserve water, save money, reduce CO₂ emissions and improve the quality of drinking water and life for millions.

SOLIDEA Group EVE® team are developing EVE® Drones, Google software and FLIR TAU aerial technology to better serve technical due diligence of water utilities in Central and Western Europe. Continue reading

“Hazardous Surveying” Asbestos and Indoor Air Quality

Warsaw 27 August 2013

Asbestos Fibres

Asbestos was a widely used fire retardant material which was woven or encapsulated in building materials and system to prevent the spread and passage of fire. As “Asbestos Abatement” took hold in Western Europe Central European manufacturers took advantage of low cost Asbestos raw materials for more than two decades.

“As asbestos contained materials [ACM’s] near the end of their usable life cycle they become dry and as they decay they crumble easily releasing toxic micro fibers into the air we breathe”

Woven into concrete Asbestos creates a low cost strong and rigid materials for such systems as roof panels, insulation boards, pipes and conduits although these materials present a real danger to health in some conditions they can be readily seen decaying all across Central Eastern Europe.

Why is Asbestos So Dangerous?

Asbestos occurs naturally in minerals it consists of tiny hair like fibers which once inhaled can remain in the respiratory system for many years where they can causes various forms of malignant lung cancer including Mesothelioma, and Asbestosis. Inhalation risks other illnesses as a result of mechanical damage. In any building environment where Asbestos is installed Asbestos is a significant risk to all building users. Reasonable exposure to Asbestos now can go undetected however be fatal later in life. Smokers who are exposed to Asbestos are at considerable risk from malignant lung cancer. Continue reading

Get A Surveyor! – Mitigating CO₂ Can Cost Lives

Warsaw 19 August 2013

Radon Kills

Who better understands the impact of CO₂ mitigation than the SOLIDEA Groups EVE® team? During the many technical due diligence and conditional surveys to date the EVE® team has recorded thousands of insulation, air tightness, and other building defects. But did you know ongoing insulation of buildings in Central and Eastern Europe designed to mitigate CO₂ emission actually puts lives at risk?

The Hazards of Radon

After cigarette smoking and radon exposure together, cigarette smoking and thereafter radon alone are the number one cause of lung cancer in the European Union. As more people stop smoking [and stop smoking near others] lung cancer cases clearly decrease as a result of smoking habits.  However cases of lung cancer as a result of building sickness and radon exposure are increasing at an alarming rate.
